HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL

• Follow the Maintenance Schedule recommen dations to ensure that the vehicle in peak operat ing condition and the emission levels are within the standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Performing the first sched- uled maintenance is very important, it compen sates for the initial wear that occurs during the break-in period. All service procedures are based on the standard GL500.
• in those few instances where the inter- state model differs, the variations will be called out in the text or a note. Section 20, "Interstate Accessories" covers torque specifications and removal/reinstallation of accessories. Sections 1 through 3 apply to the whole motor- cycle, while sections 4 through 19 describe parts of the motorcycle, grouped according to location.
