Introduction

  • This repair manual is designed to help you perform all main maintenance and repair work on BMW motorcycles correctly and efficiently. By consulting this manual regularly, workshop personnel can build on the theoretical and practical knowledge gained from the BMW Training Centre, further contributing to achieving higher service quality.
  • All information, both in text and illustrations, refers to motorcycles in their standard condition or with genuine BMW accessories installed. This manual does not apply to motorcycles that have been modified in any way that deviates from the manufacturer's specifications.
  • The structure of the repair manual follows a logical sequence based on the work to be performed: Removal, Disassembly, Repair, Assembly, and Installation. Each chapter corresponds to the construction groups of the motorcycle.
  • The chapter and page number will be provided in the respective references (e.g., 11.10 for Chapter 11, Page 10). The work to be performed during an inspection is described in Group "00". The various inspection routines are numbered (e.g., I, II, III, IV). This numbering is repeated in subsequent work descriptions to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • The use of BMW special tools required for certain tasks is detailed in the work instructions.
  • If new repair instructions are needed, they will be issued as Service Information and will be incorporated into the next edition of the repair manual. Additionally, the Electronic Parts Catalogue (ETC), which contains clear and easy-to-follow illustrations, is recommended as an additional resource for parts and technical information.
  • In cases where the work is restricted to a particular equipment specification (for example, if a specific optional extra OE is fitted), this will be indicated in square brackets at the start of the relevant item (e.g., [LT]). Please also refer to the following pages for descriptions of other symbols used in the manual and how to work with them effectively.
