FOREWORD:

  • This book is written to give the owner/operator necessary operating, routine servicing and preventive maintenance instructions for the Model 721 Bobcat.
  • Read this manual thoroughly and become completely familiar with the operation of the machine before proceeding with operating and servicing.
  • To locate desired section, place thumb on respective tab and flip pages until corresponding section tab is reached. For any additional information required, please refer to your Bobcat Dealer.
  • Maintenance which is beyond the scope of this manual should not be attempted by anyone other than qualified, authorized Melroe Dealer Servicing personnel.

SAFETY:

  • To avoid injury to the operator, safety precautions must be observed when operating the Bobcat. Study the items inside the front cover of this manual. This machine should always be shut down and Fig. 1 Safety Steps B-1805 the bucket completely lowered before leaving the seat.
  • If checks are to be made which require the machine to be running, it must be first raised and blocked so that all four wheels are off the ground. Fueling operations must be made only in a well ventilated area, which is free of sparks and open flame, after the engine has cooled.

OPERATORS CONTROLS: Throttle Control:

  • The throttle control is located to the right and front of the seat (Fig. 4). Engine speed is increased by moving the throttle control forward and decreased by moving it to the rear. Pulling the throttle all the way to the rear stops the engine.

Range Control:

  • The speed range control is located on the right side of the seat (Fig. 4). Push the lever forward for high range and pull back for low range. This control will shift the machine into high speed range for road travel and low speed range for work operation. The range control may be shifted while machine is in motion.

Parking Brake:

  • The parking brake lever (Fig. 5) should be used whenever the Bobcat is stopped and parked and before starting the engine. To set the brake, pull fully back on lever. To release the brake, press down on the button on top of the lever. Always release the brake before operating the loader.
