COMPACT (operation)

This section explains the relevant aspects of the on-board machine control system. The information in this section covers typical arrangements and there may be changes depending on the application.

General Features

• Incorporated to manage the host machine's set up, operation and protection, whilst providing data communications, user friendly interface and information display capability, the Caterpillar global control system is known as COMPACT (Computerised On-board Machine Protection, Automation and Control Technology).
• Specifically designed for ease of installation, commissioning and maintenance, COMPACT combines fully flexible software with light weight, easily accessible hardware.
• The main system components, consisting of a Control Module, a Display Module and a Power Supply Module are chassis mounted within a flameproof enclosure as shown in the typical example overleaf. The means of operator interface is via a Key Pad mounted on the flameproof cover, or optional radio system pushbuttons. The core of the system is the Control Module which is electrically connected to a wide range of peripheral equipment and systems on-board the host machine and at the gate end.
