FOREWORD:
- The guy who wrote this book has seen how hard the best riders work to get to the top and to stay on top. Team Roberts started a training camp in Spain to help European riders learn the basics of dirt track skills, which is largely an American sport. The camp in Spain was modeled on my California ranch, where Nick has trained with guys like Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson, John Kocinski and my kids. Kenny Jr. and Kurtis.
- The riding sessions we have are all playing, but there's a lot of learning taking place on these dirt bikes. I first met Nick in 1990, when he came to the Ranch with Eddie Lawson, and he was just starting to race 250s. Journalists have always been a pain in the ass, so we beat him up pretty good on the motocross and dirt track.
- He did- n't cry much. Junior was just starting to race 250s in WERA, so I was paying attention to the national scene, and noticed Nick finishing in the top three overall in AMA points a few times. He did OK on some four-stroke Hondas too. Not bad for a journalist. But street riding is the focus of this book, and that involves more than just lap times.
- Most people can't even drive a car well, much less a bike, so Sport Riding Techniques should really help. I believe in rider training and riding technology at all levels, whether you're racing for the MotoGP world championship or just enjoying a weekend ride.
- I know Nick has been writing about riding technique in the magazines for years, and I wholly endorse this book. Anything that improves your riding and improves the accept- ance of motorcycles is great with me. Nick has mentioned how much my book. Techniques of Motorcycle Roadracing, helped his racing, and I hope this book helps your riding. This guy has worked hard on his rid- ing and racing, and his book is the culmination of the attention he has paid to the techniques for success.
